Nibedita Chatterjee(2013-2015)

Among her goals as president of IAGC (2013-2015), Mrs. Nibedita Chatterjee aimed to make India’s rich and diverse culture accessible to the Lowcountry. After months of planning and support from the City Arts Council, Mrs. Chatterjee and her team hosted Grammy award winning Zakir Hussain and the Masters of Percussion at the Charleston Music Hall in March of 2014. This unforgettable evening of Indian percussion and musical fusion included a robust and diverse crowd, just as Mrs. Chatterjee had hoped for.  (Interview can be found at : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmNIGgWy7YU)

Additionally, Mrs. Chatterjee and her team introduced local youth to the culture of India by participating in the International Summer Day Camp program. IAGC members brought Indian clothing, food items, and other artifacts to share with the children.

While inviting other organizations to participate and join in various festivals and celebrations, Mrs. Chatterjee coordinated IAGC’s involvement in the MLK Jr. Diversity Celebration hosted by the Mayor of North Charleston, Keith Summey. Her leadership within and beyond our organization improved IAGC’s visibility to the local community and piqued the interest of many with regard to India and its vibrant cultural fabric.
